What to Expect
- The season typically starts in mid-July with twice-weekly practices where students begin learning and memorizing the music. Basic marching skills and flag skills will be introduced for new members.
- Band Camp is held in August. The first week consists of a three-day Mini Camp, where students begin to learn their dots (coordinates) on the field to create the forms in each part of the marching band show. The week ends with a team-building party hosted by SBPA. The following week is a five-day Band Camp. Along with intense daily practice, Band Camp allows time for students to bond, with spirit days and icebreakers that help them grow to be a band family.
- During the regular season, the band performs at Friday night football games and weekend competitions. Practice is typically held two nights a week, with additional rehearsal time immediately before each game and competition.
- Students will continue to refine their marching techniques, visual choreography, show music, flag tossing, and/or weaponry (sabre or rifle) skills throughout the season. The end goal is to perform a meaningful show that tells a story or dives deep into a concept.
